About Sultan Qaboos University (SQU)

Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) was established as a fulfillment of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said's vision, announced during the 10th anniversary of Oman’s National Day in 1980. Construction began in 1982, and the first cohort of students was admitted in 1986. Guided by the Royal Directives of His Majesty, the University initially comprised five colleges: Medicine, Engineering, Agriculture, Education, and Science. In subsequent years, the College of Arts was introduced in 1987, followed by the College of Commerce and Economics in 1993. The College of Law was added in 2006, and the College of Nursing was established in 2008, completing the University’s diverse academic portfolio.

SQU is the proud publisher of the Sultan Qaboos University Medical Journal (SQUMJ), a leading platform for medical research. Fully funded by the university, SQUMJ operates under a diamond/platinum open-access model, ensuring that authors and readers can access high-quality research without publication or subscription fees.
